The Country Newspaper Stand

(Bold-type for the Beat)

By Clancy O’Lafferty

I stopped at a newspaper stand

While drivin’ way out on the land

Thought my time of good use to catch up on the news

And to stretch out my legs would feel grand

To the lady I said with a smile

“I’ve been drivin’ for miles and miles

Far over the land and I noticed your stand

So, I thought I would rest for awhile

A newspaper please if I may?”

She said, “Yesterday’s or today’s?”

“I think I would like today’s paper

And thus I’d be keepin’ meself up to date”

“How about readin’ yesterday’s?

The stories are really great

Or come back again this time to-morrow

And I’ll be happy to sell you today’s!
