A Scotsman’s Letter From Mother

By Clancy O’Lafferty

Angus MacClouver

He flew to Vancouver

Himself and was also alone

He was buskin’ his fiddle

And made very little

And prayed for some money from home

He hoped for a sum

From his dear Scottish mum

And at last he received her kind letter

It was stuffed in a box

On some new pairs of socks

Maybe under them lay something better

“I hope that these socks

I hand knit for this box

Show my love and as well they reveal it

I was going to include

Some fivers for you

In this box but I’d already sealed it.”

Yours with love,

old scots mother
